Ceremony of closing of the Year of Finno-Ugric Cultural Capital in Narva!
On December 6, Narva concluded its year as the Finno-Ugric Cultural Capital.
The closing ceremony took place in Finland's Independence Day and St. Nicholas Day.
The program included screening of a film reviewing the year's events, performances by Finno-Ugric ensembles, and presentations on Finno-Ugric culture.
The culmination of the ceremony was the handover of Tsirk (Tsiirk) bird to the next Cultural Capital— a tradition that has lasted for 10 years. Narva, which received it from Kuhmo (Finland), has now passed the symbol to Hancock (Michigan, USA) — a city where more than half of the residents have Finno-Ugric roots and which has long served as a center of Finnish culture in America. Narva's Mayor Katri Raik and Ekaterina Kuznetsova, Head of the House of Ingria and co-organizer of "Narva-2025", emphasized that the Finno-Ugric culture will remain in Narva: the city will continue to develop its original cultural projects.
The capital title is leaving, but every former capital remains forever a part of the Finno-Ugric world, and cultural life continues!
